Questions from Ocoee Families

Where is the Ocoee center now, and how do I find the entrance?

We moved, and the sign is not up yet. You will find us at 1553 Boren Dr in Ocoee, on the back side of the Amerivita Home Health building, behind the Amerivita Home Care agency. The office is easy to miss from the street, so call (689) 600-3691 if you are unsure. Parking details are not something we can confirm here, so please ask when you call.

What happens during the free cognitive and academic assessment?

The assessment is the first step, and it is free. It gives us a picture of how your child thinks and works through academic tasks, not just which answers were wrong. From there we talk with you about what we noticed and what a plan could look like. Bring your questions about your child's schoolwork, because that context helps.

What ages or grades do you enroll at this location?

Program descriptions here do not list exact age or grade ranges, so we would rather not guess. Call the center at (689) 600-3691 and describe your student's year in school and what you are seeing. The team can tell you whether a program fits and what the next step would be.

How does the Day Academy homeschool schedule work?

Day Academy students attend three hours a day, four days a week, in very small pod-style groups. Time blends curriculum support, skill building, and guided independent work. It serves families homeschooling full-time and students who need daytime structure. Ask the center about current openings and how the schedule fits your family.

Can families from Windermere, Winter Garden, or Gotha attend?

Yes, families from those areas call us, along with families in Ocoee. We are on Boren Drive, near the Ocoee Village Center and Starke Lake. We cannot give you a drive time because traffic varies, but you are welcome to call and ask about scheduling around your own week.

Are the nearby schools listed on your site partners or assigned schools?

No. Ocoee High, Olympia High, West Orange High, Windermere High, Windermere Preparatory, and Champions Academy are nearby schools families mention, and that is all we are saying. We have no partnership and no attendance zone claims. Your home school assignment comes from OCPS, not from us.

Do you run anything during school breaks or the summer?

We do not have confirmed details about seasonal or summer sessions to share here. If you are planning around a break, call (689) 600-3691 and ask what is running at that time. The center can tell you what is actually available rather than what we might assume.

How do sibling, military, first responder, or teacher discounts work?

Those four categories exist at this center. We cannot tell you how much comes off or whether discounts stack, because eligibility and terms are confirmed by the center. Ask when you call, and be ready to explain your situation so they can check it against the current terms.

Does the center accept Step Up for Students or help with Bright Futures?

Many local families are working toward Bright Futures, and Step Up for Students comes up with homeschool and Unique Abilities families. GradePower Ocoee cannot confirm your eligibility for either. Ask the center what documentation it needs and where you verify with the program itself.

How is SAT® or ACT® prep scheduled around school and test dates?

Sessions are personalized and kept small, with two or three students, and they begin with a diagnostic assessment. Because timing depends on your student's test date, the center is the right place to ask about current group times and how to plan the weeks before a test. Call to talk it through.

Getting Started & Assessments

What happens on the first call?

A short, no-obligation conversation about your child, your goals, and your schedule. If it makes sense to go further, we set up a Dynamic Assessment, then build a written, individualized plan around what it finds. The plan is yours to keep either way.

What is the Dynamic Assessment?

It is a one-on-one assessment tailored to your child's age and level, and it takes about 60 to 90 minutes. It shows us how your child learns: strengths, learning gaps, thinking skills, and learning style. You receive a written breakdown of strengths and gaps that is yours to keep whether or not you enroll.

Our cognitive learning approach

Does my child need to study or prepare for the assessment?

No. We only want to see where things stand today. Bring your child, and a recent report card or an IEP or 504 plan if you have one (helpful but not required). Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes early. Most students say it was easier than they expected.

Is there a fee for the consultation or the assessment?

No. The initial consultation and the Dynamic Assessment are free. Fees are set by each center and can change over time, so please confirm when you call.

What happens after the assessment?

We build a plan around what the assessment found for your child, not a fixed curriculum everyone follows. We set up a regular schedule after the first few sessions, and you hear from us regularly so you are not waiting for report cards to learn how it is going.

How many sessions a week do most students attend?

It depends on the program and your child's goals. Many families start with one or two sessions a week, and most students end up attending tutoring two to four times a week. We customize the schedule for each child.

How do I choose a tutoring center for my child?

Look for a real assessment before any plan is made, a consistent tutor for your child, clear pricing with no long-term contract, and recent reviews from local families. We offer all four, and we are happy to talk through your options even if you decide to go elsewhere.

Pricing, Billing & Policies

What does tutoring cost?

After-school tutoring starts at $55/hr, SAT®/ACT® test prep starts at $65/hr, and Day Academy starts at $750/mo. Your plan is built around how much support your child needs, so we walk through real numbers with you directly.

See the full pricing page

Is there a contract or minimum commitment?

There is no long-term lock-in contract. Everything is month-to-month, with no minimum hours, and we schedule classes as you request them. We do ask for 30 days' written notice for breaks and exits so we can plan schedules and so you are not charged for unused classes.

How does billing work?

Billing is monthly. Your card is charged on the 1st for that month's scheduled classes, and we only charge for scheduled tutoring time. Students who arrive early to do homework are not charged for that time.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. We can set up weekly payments by dividing your monthly invoice by four and scheduling payments on the first four Fridays of the month. Payments should be received within 60 days of the class date.

What if my child has to miss a session?

Same-day callouts are fine: let us know by noon for afternoon classes, or by 8 PM for morning classes, and we will reschedule without penalty. Sessions can also shift week to week around sports, travel, and exams.

Do you offer discounts?

We offer special pricing for Sibling, Military, First Responder, and Teachers, and discounts for siblings and families with more than one child enrolled. Ask about them when you schedule your consultation.

Do you accept Step Up for Students scholarships?

Yes. We are a direct-pay provider for the New Worlds Reading, Unique Abilities, and Personalized Education Plan (homeschooling) Step Up for Students scholarships. Give us your child's SUFS ID and we apply the funds you authorize through your EMA toward your bill.

Tutoring, Subjects & Progress

What subjects and grade levels does tutoring cover in Ocoee?

All subjects, kindergarten through 12th grade. Reading and writing support runs from phonics and fluency through comprehension, essays, and ELA. Math runs from elementary math through algebra, geometry, and calculus, including word problems and common-core concepts.

After-school tutoring

Do you help young children learn to read?

Yes. Our Little Readers and R.E.A.D Elite programs focus on phonics, building confidence, and developing a lasting love of reading.

Reading and writing tutoring

Can you help with ADHD, learning differences, or executive function?

Families reach out to us for help with executive function, homework organization, ADHD-related challenges, and learning differences. We use compassionate, structured strategies built around how your child learns. Call us and we will talk through what your child needs.

How long will it take to see progress?

It depends on your child's starting point, goals, and attendance. In our experience, students typically need at least 40 hours of work to remediate a single grade level in one subject. We hold regular progress update meetings, and you can also check the schedule, documents, and progress updates in the caregiver portal.

Can you guarantee results?

For SAT® and ACT® prep, yes: you pay for the first 30 classes, and if you have not reached the score you want after that, additional classes are free. For tutoring, we cannot promise a specific grade for any student, because every child starts in a different place. What we do promise is that the plan is built on what the assessment found, and that we will tell you honestly if it is not working.

Do you help with homework?

Yes, but homework is not the goal. Our cognitive learning approach builds how a student thinks, organizes, and solves problems, so they can do the homework on their own. Students can also arrive early and work on homework at no charge.

SAT® & ACT® Test Prep

Do you offer SAT® and ACT® prep in Ocoee?

Yes. SAT® and ACT® test prep starts at $65/hr. Instruction is in person with local teachers, and every student gets a plan built around their goals and test date.

SAT® prep

What is the SAT®/ACT® test prep guarantee?

You pay for the first 30 classes of our SAT® or ACT® test prep. If you have not reached the score you want after those 30 classes, every additional class you need is free. You decide what the right score is for your student. We reserve the right to reasonably schedule the free classes around our availability.

What does test prep cover?

The SAT® covers Reading, Writing, and Math. The ACT® covers English, Math, Reading, Science, and the optional Writing section. Each plan starts with a diagnostic to find baseline scores and skill gaps, then adds weekly goals, targeted practice, and coaching on timing, pacing, and how to approach each question.

ACT® prep

When should my student start SAT® or ACT® prep?

Early. We want students to start well ahead of the test so they are best prepared. If you already know the test date, tell us whether it is the SAT® or ACT® and we will pace the plan around it. If you have not picked a date yet, there is no need to rush that decision.

Homeschool Support & Day Academy

What is Day Academy?

Day Academy is a blend between a pod school and private tutoring for homeschooling families. Groups are kept to 5 students per teacher, and classes run 12 hours a week following the local public school calendar. Day Academy starts at $750/mo.

Day Academy

What does Day Academy handle for homeschool families?

We handle all reading, writing, and math instruction, maintain your child's portfolio, and complete end-of-year testing with one of our certified teachers. Each student has an individualized learning plan.

Can we use a Step Up for Students scholarship for homeschool support?

Yes. We are a direct-pay provider for the Personalized Education Plan (homeschooling) Step Up for Students scholarship. Give us your child's SUFS ID and we apply the funds you authorize through your EMA toward your bill.

Our Approach, Team & Safety

What is cognitive learning?

Cognitive learning is active, constructive, and long-lasting. Instead of memorizing, students learn to make connections, reflect on the material, and apply it to new problems. That builds comprehension, memory, and problem-solving skills that carry over to every subject.

Read about our approach

How is this different from homework help or other tutoring?

Homework help focuses on tonight's assignment. GradePower Learning builds how a student thinks, focuses, and solves problems, using Interactive Coaching, where tutors make sure your child understands the path to the answer, not just the answer. Every student has an individualized plan, and the same tutor works with them from session to session.

Who will work with my child?

The same familiar tutor, session after session. Our tutors are fully trained in the GradePower Learning system and have post-secondary education, and many are also trained in public or private education. You are welcome to meet the team or visit the center before deciding anything.

Meet the team

What if it is not working for us?

Tell us. We would rather adjust the plan than have you stay in something that is not helping. There is no long-term contract, and breaks or exits need 30 days' written notice.

How do you use AI with students?

We use AI internally to help personalize learning, and AI-generated content is always reviewed by a teacher or by you before it reaches your child. We use student data only internally, with caregivers you authorize, and with your child's classroom teacher when you give permission. You can opt out by contacting us.

AI and student data policy

What should I tell you about my child's health and pickup?

Please let us know about any allergies, health concerns, and pickup or drop-off authorizations. If you do not want your child in any photos we share, tell us and we will accommodate that.

Still have a question?

We'd rather talk it through than leave you guessing. Reach out any time — a real person will get back to you personally.
